🌸 French Writing: In the upcoming weeks, students will begin writing a biography about a person he/she respects. Each student should have now chosen the person that he/she will write about. In order to write the biography, students should be able to collect information on the person that was chosen, i.e. date of birth, important dates and why these are important, etc. (Because a lot of information is needed, the person chosen should be a real person i.e. grandparent, uncle, aunt, neighbor, parent, etc.) Thank you in helping your son or daughter be prepared for this upcoming writing assignment.
🌸 Because today we started the District literacy, grade 5 fall assessment, our biography writing lessons will be on hold for 4-5 days. Yesterday, students wrote their Math Screeners.
🌸 As you are aware, the Fun Fair is just around the corner. Parents of grade 5 kids, wishing to give us a hand, are encouraged to help us with this fundraising activity by contributing towards our cake walk. Your support and generosity is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
🌸 Math: Students are to practice their x2, x4, x8, x3, x6, x10, x5 math facts (multiplication) for 10 minutes. Parents can assist their child using dice, cards, etc.
These are the outcomes that we are presently working on:
N1a: "Read and write whole numbers to 1 000 000."
N1b: "Describe personal referents for large benchmark numbers (100, 1000, 10 000, 100 000, 250 000, 500 000, 750 000, 1 000 000)."
N1c: "Flexibly express numbers in a variety of ways, including expanded notation."
N1d: "Describe the value of number digits and the pattern of place value."
🌸 "Carnet French Reading": For the period of Sept. 26th - Oct. 2nd, there should be a total of 5 readings of 15 minutes done over 5 different days (see the short explanation on the right under "Items of note"; a clearer explanation can be found in your Parent Package that you received last Monday). Carnet needs to be handed in completed on Monday, October 3rd. Thank you.
🌸 Étude de mots: Today, students completed "les liens" with their 5 words from their individualized list. Most were able to finish this assignment in class; however, some will need to work a little longer on it at home. Spelling test is Friday.
